NISSAN GT-R (R35)
Go big, or go home. When AeroMotions put a wing on the R35 GT-R, we did the math. We got our hands on one of the first GT-R’s to hit the country (VIN 007), 3D scanned the car into our aero simulator, and optimized the wing design. The result? Two seconds off a two minute lap. From California, to Georgia, to Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, the fastest GT-R’s run AeroMotions wings.
LEAVE NOTHING ON THE TABLE. GET THE WHOLE PICTURE WITH FULL-CAR CFD MODELING.
Every car is different. In order to extract the maximum performance from your car, the aero package has to be designed and tuned specifically for that car. Starting with a hyper-accurate model of the GT-R (down to breaks, rotors, and even the emblem) we refined the wing aero package in simulation to get the best possible starting point.
REFINED ON THE RACE TRACK. BUDEZ GT-R TAKES 2.29 SECONDS OF BUTTONWILLOW.
On December 29th, 2008, twelve R35 GT-R’s took over Buttonwillow racetrack in California. Running on the highly modified Budez GT-R, the Dynamic Wing S2 shaved an average of 2.29 seconds off the two minute lap time (#13 CW). After a full day of testing the wing, Pro driver Gary Sheehan summarized the experience:
“. . . the AeroMotions guys were great to work with and turned a bit of a skeptic into a believer. Once we got the wing dialed in and turned it to Active mode, it gave the car quite a bit more stability despite the awkwardness of the [street] tires and inspired a lot more driver confidence.”
PUSHING THE LIMIT. FREEDOM GT-R SHAVES 2 SECONDS OFF ROAD ATLANTA.
The crew at Freedom Racing does it right – relentless testing, detailed notes, and out-of-the-box thinking. After installing the second ever S2 wing, we headed to Road Atlanta to dial-in the tune. The first run was a shakedown, with the wing at full down force (16.5″), and a 3″ front splitter. Pro Driver Tom Long’s track notes say it all. . .
- Run 1, Wing at 16.5″, car pushes a lot, but stable in breaking. [Wing is overpowering the 3″ front splitter]
- Run 2, Wing reduced to 16 3/8″, car pushes much less, breaking still stable.
- Run 3, Wing reduced to 15 30/32″, car feels neutral in turns, less stable in breaking.
- Run 4, Wing at 15 30/32″, active control engaged, car felt neutral in turns, and stable in breaking.
“The Aeromotions active wing brings the best of both worlds together – optimal downforce while cornering & braking, with the least possible drag on the straightaway. Finding that balance in the racecar is endless, but having the capability to affect all aspects of the racetrack with minimum compromise is priceless.” – Tom Long
BREAKING CONVENTIONS, REDEFINING THE LIMIT. FREEDOM GT-R CARVES ANOTHER .2 SECONDS OFF VIR.
When the Freedom GT-R got to VIR with the S2, it was already 2 seconds per lap faster than the last time she ran there. But that wasn’t enough. The testing at VIR was thorough: wet skid pad, dry skid pad, multiple days of full course testing. On the second day, Tom Long came up with a crazy idea. “I want to shed all the rear downforce at the apex of the turn,” he said. “You wanna what?!” He went on to describe that the car was neutral at turn in, and then developed a push when powering out, right after the apex. After looking through the data, and dialing the correct parameters into the wing, Tom got his wish. And he came back .2 seconds a lap faster. Consistently.
PERFECT BALLANCE – THE R35 SPLITTER.
The R35 splitter was designed to win. The aero was tuned through full computer simulation. Notice the CNC machined venturies on the botom of the splitter. They perfectly feed air into the factory venturis built into the Nissan OEM bumper. Equally important, she was designed to last, and to survive a few good bumps. The composite material was specifically formulated for endurance racing. It’s wear and abrasion resistance are unmatched.
BREAKING RECORDS. AROUND THE WORLD.
Since that first day of GT-R track testing, AeroMotions has spent countless days at the track refining the GT-R tune with top teams and drivers. The result? Track records are breaking around the world. Each of these GT-R’s holds a track record. Some hold a few.
