The STI wing is positioned above the car, in clean airflow. Equally important, it sits right above the rear wheels. This means all the downforce generated by the wings sits squarely on the rear tires. Traditional wings are mounted behind the rear wheels. As the downforce grows, this tends to lift the front wheels. The STI hatch doesn’t suffer from this problem, and can run much more rear downforce as a result.
BRAKE HARDER
During initial testing, Tarzan Yamada wanted to see how much difference the Dynamic Wing made in his lap time. After warming up with the Dynamic Wing on, he turned it off. The next lap out, he entered a braking zone with the wing in fixed position, and couldn’t stop fast enough. The car went off track. Tarzan came back and said, “turn it back on, it works.”
