A static wing always sits in the same position. It makes downforce all the time. But it also makes drag all the time. You could set a static wing to make less drag, but then it would make less downforce. You could set a static wing to make more downforce, but then it would make more drag.

A Dynamic Wing automatically adjusts its angle of attack, so you get the best setting all the time. Aerodynamics without compromise.

The split profile allows you to increase downforce to where you need it, and specifically tune to each side of the car. A Dynamic Wing is made from the best materials using the exact same carbon-fiber pre-preg and construction processes employed in Formula 1. A Dynamic Wing harnesses the power of the AeroMotions Dynamic Aero Processor Technology (ADAPT) controller to sense the dynamics of your car and control the wing position automatically. Full adjustability lets you optimize the settings to your car, to your driving, and to the conditions.

This is the next generation of aerodynamics.

In the 1960s, Jim Hall proved the advantage of a movable wing. The effectiveness of active aerodynamics has been demonstrated multiple times by such legendary cars as the split-winged Nissan R381, 1960s Formula 1 cars to the flexible “non-active” Formula 1 wings of recent years. With the advent of modern electronic control systems, we are looking forward to putting Dynamic Wing technology within the reach of enthusiasts everywhere.

Yes, it’s faster. See the ThunderHill Data »

Extensive use of pre-preg carbon fiber, aircraft grade aluminum, and titanium, make Dynamic Wings incredibly strong, and surprisingly light. See how we build it »

Aerospace Grade Materials, Formula 1 Grade Construction
You don’t have to drive a Formula 1 car to have a Formula 1 grade wing.

The wing halves are made in an autoclave from high-modulus carbon fiber pre-preg with a two-phase toughened epoxy resin system. This process achieves the strongest, lightest parts possible. AeroMotions composites have a slight tint to the resin, which is built in UV-filtering. This makes the wing inherently more resistant to yellowing and de-lamination that can occur when a protective clear coat is applied to a part made with UV-unstable resins.

Titanium Pivot Rod
The backbone of a Dynamic Wing is the Titanium pivot rod. We wanted the Dynamic Wing to have a backbone of steel titanium.

Titanium is as strong as steel, but 45% lighter. It is employed extensively throughout the aerospace industry for its high strength to weight ratio, extreme corrosion resistance, and excellent fatigue properties.

Aero Power Pod
Every automotive wing needs uprights. A Dynamic Wing needs a very special type of upright, which we call the Aero Power Pod.

Symmetric airfoil profiles make for a slippery, low drag upright and a durable housing for the actuation hardware. Constructed of thin walled aircraft grade 6061 Aluminum, the uprights are strong and light. The anodized finish adds corrosion and scratch resistance.

Base Feet (Dynamic Wing S only)
To get the most traction, you give your car the best shoes. Now your wing can have some nice footwear, too.

Tear drop shaped feet provide an aerodynamically clean way to distribute the high down force load on the trunk. Like the wing halves, these are also constructed in an autoclave from high-modulus carbon fiber pre-preg with a two-phase toughened epoxy resin.

Force Breakaways
Every once in awhile, a friend of yours may accidentally lean on your wing. In the name of keeping friendships, AeroMotions Dynamic Wings keeps this from being a bad thing.

Precision made stainless steel connecting rods transfer motion from the actuators to the airfoil elements. A load-limiting safety mechanism protects the actuators from overload conditions. The actuator will automatically re-engage once the excess load is removed.

Way Cover
Every once in a while, it rains (well, maybe most of the time in Seattle). Aeromotions hardware keeps the rain and contaminants in check.

A clearance opening is required at the top of the Power Pod to allow the connecting rods to move forward and backwards when the wing halves pivot. A stainless steel way cover moves with the connecting rod to block the top of the Power Pod. This greatly reduces the amount of water and contaminants entering the power pod.

Motion Control
The AeroMotions Dynamic Wing responds so quickly, it feels as if it’s reading your mind. While we haven’t yet invented mind-reading, we have something that’s pretty close.

A high torque electric actuator drives each wing half. Response time is nearly instantaneous.

Center Fence
Two fences are good, but four is better.

Hard mounting points allow two optional center fences to be mounted between the wing halves. Adding at least one center fence increases downforce and efficiency. The greatest effect is seen during roll control, when the gap between wing halves is largest, and the pressures distribution over the two wing halves is different.

We installed the first prototype in the paddock between registration and the driver’s meeting. Really. Read more »

Totally Self-Contained, Easy Installation
All actuation hardware is fully contained in the power-pods. The ADAPT controller box only needs to be mounted to a level surface and wired to switched 12V power and a speed signal (on Dynamic Wing S) to operate. Connectors are high-grade and the wires are strain-relieved and sheathed in metal at the trunk pass-through to protect against damage from abrasion.

Customizable.
Your car is unique. Your wing should be, too.

Aeromotions can customize the performance and look of your wing. Going faster than 200mph? Let us know. We’ll build you a special S2. Need taller Aero Power Pods? We can build to your specific application. We also have full customization available through our factory supported AM-Custom Series, available exclusively on the Dynamic Wing S and S2. This upgrade allows you further customizations to the look and feel of your wing.

Totally Adjustable
You’ve tweaked pretty much every setting on your car. Now you can tweak your wing, too.

The ADAPT controller allows you to easily set and change wing angles, sensitivity to motion, and threshold values to optimize the wing to your specific car, driving style and driving conditions. A bar graph display lets you see your settings as you adjust them.

Building a Dynamic Wing may seem like rocket scientist sort of stuff, but it’s built so you don’t have to be one to use it. See how easy it is to use »

You’ve ordered your AeroMotions Dynamic Wing. Congratulations! Now what?

Tuning the Max Downforce Angle
Every AeroMotions wing ships with a system that makes initial setup a snap. Careful analysis of the airfoil’s stall characteristics allows us to place telltales (small yarns) at strategic locations on the wing. Start driving. When the yarns are pinned against the wing, the air is attached and the wing is below its stall angle (the point at which lift starts dropping off, and drag increases). Part of setup means increasing the wing angle (pushing a button) until the yarns flap. At that point, you’ve gone too far. Back off the angle, once the yarns straighten out, you got it. You just set the the max down force angle for your car in the ADAPT controller. The ADAPT controller will remember this setting until you change it, even if you disconnect your car battery.

Electronic Lock Out
The ADAPT controller has an electronic lockout switch for your wing. This puts your wing in static mode and gives you simple, push button adjustability of the fixed angle. The high-downforce modified-Liebeck-profile airfoil, and slippery Aero Power Pods make the AeroMotions Dynamic Wing a very fast static wing.

So You Want to Go Faster?
Switch the wing into Dynamic Mode. You can now set the straightaway wing angle, the braking angle, and the maneuvering angle. The push button control of the ADAPT controller lets you easily set up and change this behavior while the car is in the paddocks.

You can also adjust how much the wing reacts to different levels of acceleration, braking, and turning. There are advanced settings for corner entry and corner exit behavior.

You can also adjust the roll sensitivity, which effects how much the wing splits in corners. If you want the wing halves to be at equal angles through corners you can dial the Roll Sensitivity down to zero with the push of a button. If you want the full weight transfer feature, dial up the Roll Sensitivity. The ADAPT controller will remember the last settings you entered, even if you disconnect your car battery.

Aerodynamic Balance
A key to getting the most out of aero is to marry downforce with balance. AeroMotions wings are designed with high-downforce airfoils optimized for the racing speed range seen at the majority of tracks around the world (~60-130mph). The Dynamic Wing and Dynamic Wing S are designed to provide full control of wing angle at these speeds. Above these speeds, the wing automatically starts reducing angle of attack to balance high downforce with minimized drag. A wing produces downforce as a square of velocity and the Dynamic Wing will continue to increase downforce at this lowered angle up to the 180mph rating (Dynamic Wing and Dynamic Wing S).

The Dynamic Wing S2 is tuned for supercars and high-powered extreme tuner cars which can take advantage of higher downforce (and consequently drag) at higher speeds. These wings maintain full control of wing angle up to their maximum speed rating of 200mph.

Factory Install and Tune
AeroMotions factory tuners are available to install and tune your wing to an optimized factory configuration, for you. There are also advanced tuning and control options available to give the wing specific behavior for your needs. Please let us know if you are interested in either of these options and we will work with you to design a wing to fit your specific needs.
