We are incredibly proud to announce the new Subaru BRZ Wing / Scion FR-S Wing R.Static GT Adjustable Wing package! Its one bad mama jama. It includes our motorsports 14 degree adjustable plates with 8″ uprights to get the new co-created hot rod some serious balance above 90mph.

Here’s a little snippet:

There’s no doubt that Subaru and Toyota delivered one of the most balanced cars ever. At 50 mph, she’s perfect. But like all cars, the Subaru BRZ develops rear-end lift at high speeds (above 90mph). This is where we come in. Our high-downforce, low-drag wing blade is perfect for the BRZ. With just 2 degrees of Angle of Attack (AoA), our signature GT wing blade brings all the balance back to the GT86. And with our industry leading low drag design, you wont see a speed penalty on the straights.

We were recently directed to a forum post, with a very good question:

I’m not throwing off on the aeromotions part, hell I’d love to have it! But, did it really take a $42M, 180mph wind tunnel to make a completely flat piece of carbon with 2 generic looking end plates? The “motion” feature is awsome, but unless I’m missing something, the design of the wing doesn’t look very groundbreaking.

Edit: I looked at close ups and can now see that it’s not completely flat, but it still looks very basic to me.

Aero is a subtle art.

This is why the top F1 teams are able to do a few tricks and walk away from the competition (who are also very clever, driven, competitors). In our case, the top of the wing has a very gentle curve. But the magic happens on the bottom. Our wing runs the only “concave pressure recovery” system in racing. It looks like the big dipper, and is a very counterintuitive shape. But she works marvelously. Technically, it’s optimal. A recent development in aero was the ability to use an “optimal” pressure distribution, and then have the computer reverse-solve the actual shape. So, technically, the computer figured this one out.

Why is an Accurate Wind Tunnel So Important?

Mid-level performance airfoils are very robust to manufacturing defects. Think of an American V8 compared to an F1 engine. Small imbalances in piston weight don’t matter at 6,000 RPM, but they will blow your engine at 18,000 RPM. Aero is the same way. High performance airfoils are sensitive to small manufacturing defects, which is why most companies don’t use them. We went a different way. We used a high-performance foil, and then created a manufacturing process + tooling to produce extremely accurate, high-fidelity wings.

What did you Test in The Tunnel?

No two wings are exactly the same – there is a little variation in each shape. For example, when you glue the top and bottom halves together, there can be a 0.010″ variation in thickness of the trailing edge. In high-performance aero terms, this is HUGE. How much is acceptable? Well, we know exaclty. We found out in the tunnel. Same the thing with the surface finish. We obsess over its smoothness. How much roughtnes is acceptable on that airfoil, we found out. The list goes on. The bottom line is that Aero is very complex. There are a huge number of factors that need to come together to get it right. This is why F1 is dominated by aero, and why they built $42M wind tunnels to develop exotic aero packages. I promise you, the 2D airfoil on the back of the Ferrari F1 car is one of the most advanced shapes, and best understood wings, ever made. It looks deceptively simple. But it’s not.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.; February 6, 2012 – Aeromotions Inc. announced the launch of their new GT-R R35 splitter. Over a year of computer modeling, analysis, and track testing led to the unique design. While the top of the splitter appears normal, the bottom of the splitter has CNC cut venturis to feed air into the stock GT-R front venturis. This system works to enhance the great engineering already present in the R35 GT-R, while eliminating some of the factory understeer.

The three-piece splitter is constructed from Amarin Fiber, a revolutionary composite that has strength-to-weight properties similar to carbon-fiber, but adds much greater impact and wear resistance. The piece is perfect for endurance-racing applications. The splitter mounts directly to the frame and air-dam with the included stainless steel hardware. Installation is simple, and individual segments of the splitter can be replaced in the event of damage. Made in the USA. Off-Road use only.

Duncan’s Race Report – New lap record, thanks Willall, Aeromotions and JRZ

Well after nine rounds of the NSW sprint championships (local time attack series) friend Marek and I found ourselves lined up on the dummy grid on Sunday at Wakefield Park (our local track) for the final session of the last round – separated by a single point – and with the margin between us just 0.12 seconds (Marek faster) the winner of the final session would take the 2010 Outright, Type and Class Championships on the day. It really doesnt get much closer than this so the pressure was a little intense.

Both Marek and I have assisted each other during the development of our R35′s throughout the year in various ways, and being mates too it was a pity one of us had to place 2nd. But there we were, last round, last session, and only 0.12s in it….

We both had a few dramas getting the new N1 Michelins installed, and i had some fuel system issues on the day too, nearly unable to compete on the day. Thanks to support from Greg (our trusty crewman), Martin from Willall, Mick from Corse and the Russo Brothers too, i was on the start line for the last session with Marek.

At the end of the final session both Marek and i improved on our previous times, and then some. We’ve been pushing each other faster all year but I simply couldnt believe it when Greg told me i managed to pull off a 1:00.82 lap, good enough to slip in front and snatch the outright championship for 2010, setting a new lap record too. Running those times, nothing broken, swapping tyres and driving home, got to be pretty happy with how good the GTR has performed all year, what a great road/track car.

Two Australian GT-R’s have been battling for the track record at Eastern Creek International Raceway (home of the 2010 World Time Attack Challenge). Both running Aeromotions R2 Wings, Duncan Forrest and Marek Tomaszewski posted blistering fast lap times that were untouchable by other cars.

Back in February, the class 4D lap record at Eastern Creek was 1 min 42.41 sec. The old record had stood since 2005. In March Duncan said “As ever though, i had to find a way to up the ante for the 2010 season. That’s where the Aeromotions R2 wing comes in”. Duncan then added an Aeromotions R2 Dynamic Wing to his car and in March Duncan broke the 5 year old record at Eastern Creek by a massive 1.3 seconds, posting a lap time of 1 min 41.087 seconds.

On 16 May the series again visited Eastern Creek with Duncan bettering his March time by a further .89 sec, posting a 1:40.195. Marek posted a 1:42.80.

Today (8 August 2010) the R35′s visited Eastern Creek again for the latest round of the NSW Supersprint Series. Duncan posted a great time of 1:38.93 in the charcoal R35 (beating his 16 May time by 1.257 second). Not to be outdone, on his 6th timed lap of the day, Marek in the white R35 posted a lap of 1 minute 38.8263 seconds, bettering Duncan’s laptime set in May by 1.369 seconds to beat Duncan’s best time today by 0.1113 of a second.

To put this in perspective, Marek’s lap time today is a massive 3.59 seconds under the old February 4D Lap record that had stood since 2005, and 2.26 seconds under the record that Duncan set in March. Keep up the good work guys!

Each of these teams upgraded to an aeromotions wing this season, increasing their speed through the corners. In the end, it was the COBB tuning GT-R that set a new track record with a lightning fast 1:23.4. Way to go Brian!
